    Decanoic Acid

Capric acid, also known as decanoic acid, is a saturated medium-chain fatty acid of 10 carbon atoms. Among common vegetable oils, coconut oil contains the highest amount of capric acid.

Capric acid (decanoic acid) has anti-inflammatory activity; hence diet rich in capric acid can be considered for managing inflammatory diseases. Sodium caprate, a sodium salt of capric acid, is an approved food additive. Sodium caprate could be incorporated into oral drug formulations to enhance the intestinal absorption of drugs. When used as a cosmetic additive, sodium caprate can increase the skin penetration of active ingredients in the cosmetics. Monocaprin, a monoglyceride of capric acid has the potential to be used as a therapeutic agent against Candida albica and Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
