P12 : Sugars in Solvent Extract

This package will report the amounts of various water-soluble carbohydrates (including sucrose, fructose, and glucose) in the water extractives of a biomass sample. We can analyse an extract that you have prepared yourself or we can use the water-extracts obtained in analysis packages P5 - Water Extractives, P6 - Full Extractives, and P10 - Sugars, Lignin, Extractives, and Ash.

In this analysis package we report the amounts of the various water-soluble carbohydrates in terms of their % mass contribution to the total dry weight of the biomass sample (before extraction).

For some samples it can be very important to remove and quantify the water soluble carbohydrates. For instance, it is likely that water-soluble carbohydrates will be present in the liquid outputs of many pre-treatment processes and, if their concentrations are not known, it may be incorrectly inferred that such sugars present in the liquid must come from lignocellulose. However, if the water-soluble carbohydrate composition is known then these values can be substracted from the amounts of sugars in the pre-treatment liquid to determine the amount of true lignocellulosic sugars that are present.

Constituents Determined

For every constituent determined via wet-chemical analysis each sample is analysed in duplicate and we provide the compositional data for each replicate along with the average value and the standard deviation between the duplicates. Our analytical protocols typically provide results with a high level of precision, as detailed here.

Examples of the data reports generated can be viewed on the Celignis Database. Please log on to the guest account using email "test@celignis.com" and password "celignis".
